A few months ago popular religious television teacher Andy Stanley let slip his contempt for churches of less than 200 in size, saying such churches could not provide enough of a program to its children and teens. He called on parents attending smaller churches to leave them and come to mega-churches like the one he is CEO of.
Then back a couple of months ago, in August he was speaking at an “Engaging the Culture” conference. He repeated something he has said before in one form or another. He said his advice to pastors and Christians is to “get the spotlight off the Bible.”
Andy’s philosophy is, let’s talk about the resurrection and the miracles of Jesus and not be so concerned with details of the Bible. Andy’s philosophy is a lot like the Devil’s philosophy. Satan did not try to suggest to Eve that there is no God. He just wanted her to question God’s Word. His question to Eve, “Yea, hath God said…?” was his way of saying “let’s get the spotlight off the Bible.”
Rather than buying into the Raggedy Andy philosophy I would counsel that we stand with that company of believers from across the centuries who have stood fast on the authority of the Bible and have paid even the price of blood to see it propagated.
