I attended a summit meeting last week that
was organized by Mike Pixomatis for law
enforcement, local government and civic
leaders. The concern was so great that
they had to set up an overflow room, and
then ended up having another 50 or 60 who
were unable to register since there was no
more room. The Summit’s focus was related
to the impact of legalization of marijuana.
The speakers were doctors, judges,
undercover and uniformed law enforcement
personnel. Each painted a bleak future for
California if the initiative on the ballot to legalize the drug passes.
One official who lives in Colorado related how rapidly various
crimes, accidents, and driving under the influence incidents have
increased since marijuana was legalized there.
One thing I found remarkable was that nearly all the presenters,
at one point in their presentations, mentioned how devastating
the results of legal alcohol consumption have been! Now, bear in
mind, these people were not Bible Baptists at a revival meeting!
One of them was a former undercover cop who had spent quite
a while working his way up into the leadership levels of the Hell’s
Angels, till he was shot in one of their turf wars. He pointed out
all the successes of the alcohol prohibition years, and made the
statement, “They just didn’t keep it in place long enough for it
to have the full beneficial effect it would have had on American
society.”
Alcohol and nicotine are powerfully addictive drugs which have
combined to kill millions, so none of the presenters could imagine
another nail driven in the coffin by adding marijuana legalization.
A doctor stated that legalizing the present powerful strains of
marijuana would be like taking the worst elements of alcohol and
tobacco and combining them into one lethal product, destined to
enslave a great company of undisciplined and ill-informed people.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the
devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour:”
