Katie cried through the entire play. Something about Scrooge’s pain was resonating deep in her soul. She has been through a lot, and she knew she needed something. It just wasn’t quite clear yet what that “something” was.
“See you on Wednesday,” she told my wife after the play.
She showed up with her daughter Evie, a classmate of my daughter, and then joined us for the prayer meeting. Afterwards, she sat with my wife and heard the Good News that Jesus died for her sin, and that she could call on Christ to save her from her sin. When they got to the verse, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” she said, “Read that again.”
Jamie did.
“I’ve never done that,” Katie said, and she was ready. Right there on the third pew, she called on Christ to forgive her of her sins. She was adopted into God’s family. She was accepted. She was given God’s riches and inheritance.
Her problems are not gone, but now she has someone to cast her cares on. She has a Savior and a Friend.
That’s what the Christmas play was all about. We often say, “If one person is saved, it was all worth it.” And that’s certainly true.
Tonight’s service is about the MANY ways that the Christmas play was a blessing. Not only for salvations, but the many other ways the seed was sown and watered. It helped our church. It helped Christians.
I’m ENCOURAGED by what took place last week. Come back tonight and we’ll celebrate together.
See you at 5:30! -Pastor Ryan
