I believe in truth.
You would be surprised at how many people do not. The buzzphrase of today is “your truth,” as if truth is merely a perspective on facts. But while there are subjective “truths,” or your opinions based on facts, there are, in fact true and false statements. Sacramento is the capital of California, and 2+2=4. Those are objectively true statements, not just my perspective.
For a relativist, there are no absolute truths (except for that!). This is self-defeating and illogical, and as Bible-believers, we believe that objective truth is found in a person: Jesus Christ. He IS the truth.
Jesus doesn’t just say true things—he IS truth itself, so that one can never fully know truth until he knows Jesus Christ.
Yet another reason we’re passionate about the Gospel around here… we want people to know truth!
The word true shares a root with “trust” and “trustworthy,” and comes from the root word “deru” or “tree,” as if it is something stable, rooted, and reliable. Truth is that which we can anchor our lives to, and that gives us a life worth living.
Today, let’s talk about the command to “speak every man truth.”
