Preparing for A Christmas Carol
Registrations are rolling in like crazy for this year’s Christmas play, and I would like to spend some time over the next couple of weeks to help us prepare well for our guests. This event is good for us as we learn how to host people better, and I like using the Christmas play to develop Christians to be others-focused. That should be year-round.
Teams and leaders. We have found that large events like this work best with small teams of people, and each team needs a leader. As my dad used to always say,
“If two people are in charge of feeding a horse, the horse will starve.”
Everyone thinks everyone else will take care of it, but that always means something falls through the cracks. With a leader in place, he or she can gather a team, think through the details, and prepare their area far better than anyone else can.
I’d like to take some time tonight to talk about the following teams, and I hope you can find a team to minister with.

COUNSELORS: YOU!
Rather than a separate counseling team, God has YOU at the play not only the enjoy it, but to try to strike up conversations with guests and see how God used the message. Be prepared to pray with someone, talk through the Gospel presentation, or invite them back to our church services.
PREP (This Saturday, Nov. 23, 9:00am) HANGING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS (outside)
Leader: Zack Roberts
BUILDING SETS (platform)
Leader: Pastor Wm. Rench
Many roles and teams are already filled, but if you would like to serve others in the behind-the-scenes of the show, this is how. It takes a HUGE amount of effort from a HUGE number of people to pull off a production like our play, but it is all for souls!
Your role may not feel large—there is only one Scrooge—but it takes all of us working together to love our community and welcome the crowds. Let’s do our best to be intentional hosts.
