Rules. How do you respond to them?
“Well, I usually follow them, I guess.” If you can sneak around them, do you? If you can do something and not get caught, do you? If you obey the rule but have a stinky attitude, is it still okay?
Probing questions. Hmm… We’ll have rules for camp tomorrow. We’ll have rules all week at camp. Most importantly, how’s your attitude?
Last Wednesday, a bunch of the guys seemed to focus on wanting to be a good influence on the other guys in their cabin. Want to know one of the best ways you can do that? Obey the rules with a servant’s spirit. Even if you hate them (the rules, not your cabin-mates!). A couple rules you’ll be following will really test your attitude next week:
No electronics, even on the bus. It’s either, “Ok. No problem.” Or “What?! No phone or game system or music on the bus?! What will I DO for 3 hours?!” How about, like, talk to people. Whoa. Mind bomb.
Follow OUR dress code. Ladies, skirts and dresses to the evening services. Guys, no jeans to the evening services. And wear a belt. And tuck in your shirts. Some of you can’t even do that for church! So, it will be a test to your attitude. It’s either, “well, my counselor said I could wear this…” or, “I know the rules. I’ll just follow them.” We always dress up MORE than even the counselors. Just expect to be an example and stand out a little. Weird? Maybe. But how’s your spirit?
No “Number 7!” Number 7 is the Ironwood rule for no guy/girl contact. Weird? Maybe. But how is your attitude about the rule? Can you go a week and be okay? Or will you try to find ways around the rule? Even on the bus, our rule has always been no guys/girls sitting in a paired seat. How do you respond to that?
I’m not accusing you. I’m just asking. How’s your spirit. Always obey. But always obey with the right attitude, too. – Bro. Ryan.

Perhaps you could email Pastor Goetsch and let him know you’re praying for him. Just a thought. [email protected] You could even email him today while you’re thinking about it if you have email set up on your phone.
NO AFTERGLOW TONIGHT – Pack for camp instead.
