Do you spend time each morning doing personal devotions?
Personal devotions are simply a time that you set aside every morning to read God’s Word, think about it, and pray to God. It is not the only time to have a relationship with God (that goes on all day every day), but your morning devotional time is crucial to a solid walk with God. You will be very distant from God without spending time with Him in His Word.
A few simple suggestions on daily devotions:
- Make time daily. Set your alarm and make it part of your morning routine. Be committed to it. If you do it as your duty for a while, eventually it becomes routine, and then it becomes something you enjoy, and then it becomes something you can’t miss.
- Listen. Audio Bibles are everywhere, and you can download a million Bible apps that include the audio version. I use the YouVersion Bible app and sometimes listen to the King James Bible audio version. Instead of listening to music while you jog, work out, or drive to school, try listening to your Bible instead.
- Get a schedule. That same app also has daily Bible reading schedules. Some are long, some are short. Get yourself on a schedule and keep to it every day. Some schedules are daily, while others might do 6 days per week.
- Make a prayer list. Get a journal, an evernote notebook, or a Microsoft Word document and write down things to pray for. Then, each day, open up your journal and talk to God about the things on your list. Your list might include praises, prayer requests, struggles you’re having, relationships, life questions, etc.
