When I was a teen, I craved something deeper, spiritually. I wanted to know my Bible more, but I
did not know how to teach myself. I would read the
Bible, but I hardly studied the Bible. I rarely meditated on Scripture. I
did not know how. Most of the time, I barely understood what I was
reading. “God,” I thought, “I’m supposed to meditate on yourWord?!
I’m having a hard time reading it!”
Eventually, I became faithful in my Bible reading. I rarely missed a
day. It was special to me.My devotions became my favorite time of the
day. God became, for the first time in my life, truly real to me.
It was my Junior and Senior year of high school that my craving for
spiritual depth began. I needed more.
I would come across these little devotionals—adult and teen editions—
and I hated them! They were so shallow! They were so short! They
never took me deep into Scripture.Maybe the author went deep into
Scripture himself, but then he wrote down his observations. My
devotions amounted to reading his opinions about the Bible rather
than leading me into the Bible for myself. I am not a fan of that model.
What the BIBS model does is gets YOU into Scripture for yourself.
That way, your spiritual walk with God is not dependent on a youth
pastor, a parent, or a pastor… it’s dependent on you.
God won’t ask you on judgment day, “So, how much Bible did your
parents read to you?” God will reward you based on how well you knew
Him. That only comes through HisWord.
How are you doing? Good, I hope. I want to help, if I can, but I will be
the best help when I teach you how to help yourself. That’s what
Wednesday nights are for. I’m glad you’re here.
