I sometimes read the Bible all wrong. I read texts like this….
…and I just kind of… keep reading, forgetting that these were real human beings. They were NOT supernaturally endowed with perfect voices and harmonious melodies right there on the spot.
Guess what… they had to REHEARSE for this moment.
When we have big days, like our Easter services, we rehearse weekly for months. Imagine if you had to build the most glorious building ever built in the history of mankind (seriously!), and you were planning the open ceremonies. Imagine if you were building GOD’S house– the physical manifestation of His presence–and you were in charge of the music for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Talk about pressure!
The music of Solomon’s ceremonies had an incredible impact. They sang. They played instruments. Solomon prayed (chapter 6), and then God filled the temple with His glory (5:14, and chapter 7). It must have been the most incredible sight that anyone had ever seen.
I wonder if the choir would have flubbed their songs. I wonder if they’d just thrown something together the week before. I wonder if the result would have been the same.
I doubt it. We’re not doing choir for some kind of manufactured result we’re after, but we always need to keep in mind that it’s a WORTHY God we serve.
