Most Americans agree that our current choices for the next President of the United States are rather dismal. Unfortunately, these candidates are simply a reflection of a large segment of the current American character. There is a good Bible word to describe it. The word “froward,” means turning from, with aversion or reluctance. Its antonym is “toward.”
America was once a nation that generally looked toward God, but in the last three or four generations has, in many respects, turned her back to God. The last several surveys conducted by Barna research and others have revealed that the fastest growing category on the question of what religion, is “None.”
As we have seen in reading the history of Israel, a froward nation is given kings of the same character. The pendulum swings “to and fro.” For a nation to change direction there must first come a change in its people. Though our vote on Tuesday isn’t going to bring Revival to our country, we may at least slow the rapidity to our decline.
The two major parties have platform statements identifying the positions of the political leaders associated with those parties. I urge you to read these platform positions and then vote for the party which more closely reflects your own views on the issues. A group of fundamental believers called Awake America, has compiled a comparison of the two parties’ positions, taken directly from party platform statements. We have a link to it for you to print out, or to see online at cbctemecula.org/vote. Look it over before voting on Tuesday.
