We’re completing our “unofficial” series on marriage today. I call it “unofficial” because the “official” series is simple a verse-by-verse exposition of the New Testament book of 1 Corinthians, and today we complete chapter 7—the chapter on marriage. I’ve been so encouraged by the past few weeks, and it’s been a study I would never have otherwise done.
If someone said to me, “You should do a series on marriage,” I would approach it like I’d prepare for a couples retreat. I’d gather information from various marriage books, plan a study from the most popular marriage Scriptures, and put together a few messages on how to love your spouse.
I would never have got into the nitty-gritty of divorce, of remaining single, or certainly not of circumcision or slavery! Yet, that’s where the text took us, and what a fascinating study it’s been!
I’m about 40 sermons in, yet I feel like we’re just getting going (I know YOU probably don’t feel like that, but I do!) I believe so deeply in the preaching of God’s Word that I know He will bring you just what you need. Preaching the Word is more than a 4-week mini-series on a bunch of topics. We need the meat of every line of Scripture.
Even when it doesn’t seem to fit your current circumstance (“huh? Being single? What’s that got to do with me?”) the steady diet of God’s Word will help you connect your life to God through the TRUTH of His Word.
The Scriptures are our anchor, and we need every bit of it. So let’s dive into it as our source of the only real Truth left in this world!
Let’s bring the Bible home.

P.S. Tonight’s sermon is exactly the opposite of what I said in the note—it’s going to be a break from our series on the topic of “Being a Welcoming Church.” See? I’m not against non-series sermons!
See you tonight!
