The Summer is Over
Summer intern Bro. Karsten left yesterday, high school is ramping back up again, college is back in session, and people’s vacations are ending. Though it seems as though the summer is coming to an end, summer seems to be the time when people try to get a lot of projects done. I heard lots of stories from people that were working on projects around their house or at their workplace. Whether it’s renovating their floors, building an outside deck, building a chicken coop—whatever it was, there was a lot of people working on improving something. Even at church, the summer is usually when most of the big projects get done like renovating the children’s wing last summer or renovating the entire sanctuary this summer.
As a church, the summer is when we put in a lot of work and effort into something that needs to get done. Once the summer is over, we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Working on projects can be hard, but it is so worth it! Sometimes, it’s even blood, sweat, and tears. Even Psalm 126:5 says, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” Now, I understand that’s not exactly what the verse is talking about, but sowing (working) can be grueling. But, when the sowing ends, the joyful reaping begins!
Now, we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor. But! The work never ends. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” This is just the natural course of work. We get to enjoy our work for a little time and then we’re off right back to work.
Take a little step back. Enjoy the fruits of your labor from this summer. But don’t take too long. There’s still work to do.
