Just in case you were wondering.
Oh, you weren’t? What jerks!
You know, my prayer as a youth pastor/dad has been that I can show you through my family’s example that ministry can be incredibly fun! I want you to know that serving God is the BEST thing a family can do together.
We’ve been at it with kids for three years now. It’s been quite a journey. Abe and Charlotte have taught ME a lot about what it means to be a Christian. They have challenged me to be a better Christian and work to be an example as a dad.
I purposely tell stories of my kids and have them around youth activities because I want to show you that families are not a burden to life—they’re a blessing! I’ve met people who pretty much check out of life while they are raising their kids. I am all for devoting time to them, but not at the expense of the greater ministry: the church.
Too much of anything is bad. Too much family (if you are not a connected church member) is bad. Too much church (if you are neglecting your family) is bad. Is it possible to have both, and do well at both?
Yes. YES! It is possible. God has called me to preach. He has also called me to be a dad, and a husband, and a teacher, and… He has called me to a lot of things.
If God calls, He will also enable.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 1 Thes. 5:24.
If God has called me to do all these things, HE is going to have to be the one to do the work. He gives us plenty of time to do all the things He has called us to do. Don’t waste His time that He has given you, and do ALL to His glory!
