-bulletin note from Sunday, March 3, 2013
Many vitriolic threats and attacks were heaped upon the pastor of a large Southern Baptist Church in Dallas over the last couple of weeks by homosexuals and their very angry and bitter supporters. Why did this First Baptist Church in Dallas receive all this sudden national media attention? Sports figure Tim Tebow, who professes to be a Christian, backed out of making an appearance at the dedication of a new building the church has completed. Media vultures, upon learning Tebow was slated to attend, proceeded to assault the church’s position against the sins that the church has always preached against. Tebow got more concerned about his career than his testimony. It would seem he desired the favor of the media more than the favor of God. Pastor Jeffress has used the attacks to reiterate the fact that Bible believing churches are preaching the same message against the sins of the world that we always have, and the same message that there is offered to all the forgiveness of God through the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not our message that has changed, it is the culture that has turned away from the truth. Though I would have some differences with Pastor Jeffress in some areas, I support his stand for the truth of the Word of God even when he and his congregation have to face the slings and arrows of many who have set themselves to destroy the influence of the Word of God.
