In a recent article in The Intercessor Ministry Magazine, Pastor Jerry Scheidbach quoted Isaiah 59:14 – And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
He pointed out the fact that since the Bible says the church is the pillar and ground of the truthand not the world at large, it is the church which is responsible to proclaim the truth, and not let truth be fallen in the street.
The prophet spoke of his nation in that same chapter of Isaiah as a people groping for the wall, like the blind. Here was a nation whose walls had been moved and a people who no longer had a guide of truth.
Scheidbach wrote that church attendance leading up to the war of Independence was above 97% whereas today it stands at about 37% and dropping. Of course, back then, the vast majority of the leaders of those early American churches believed the Bible was truth and was, as it claims, the very Word of God. Sadly, most religious leaders today do not hold that view.
People need to get back to church, but they need to have churches and church leaders who believe the Bible and preach and teach it as it is, the perfect, preserved, infallible, authoritative Word of God. If one rejects the Bible as the truth, he must determine something else that he will embrace as his foundation for direction and decisions.
Experience will eventually reveal that any other foundation is cracked and crumbling, and will fail him in due time. Are you founded and grounded on the sure foundation, and then, are you living like you believe it? Let’s not be counted among those who would let Truth be fallen in the streets.
