Next week is VISION SUNDAY, and I put in the note that I am not called by God to be the CEO of Calvary Baptist Church. Modern church theory says that the pastor is supposed to be so much more than the Bible calls him to be, and I don’t want to get sucked into that model.
However, I AM certainly excited about what God will do in our church this year! I have dreams and goals, and I believe we are at the start of a GREAT year… but I’m not a prophet! I can’t predict the future.
I want to go into this year with our plans loosely held, as if God could change them at any time. I am so excited about our Bible institute restarting, our missions trip to the Philippines, and a renewed emphasis on reaching lost souls for Jesus Christ. I believe we need ALL of those things, but the flash-in-the-pan Christian is only good for a short time. That’s not what we need.
God, give us enduring, stable Christians who are anchored in your WORD. We’ll talk more about that next week.
In the meantime, enjoy the services today. I’m calling it COVENANT SUNDAY. Often, the Israelites would get a reminder from God about their covenant with him, and as we close out 2024 and look ahead to 2025, I believe this is a good time for us to do that, too. I’m looking forward to spending this year with you. God bless you and happy new year!
