“Ah, Christmas! The only time I know of when men everywhere seem to open their shut-up hearts and close their pocket books!”
That line was from Ebenezer Scrooge in last week’s play, yet God did something in his heart that transformed him into a whole new person. The Gospel came in and awakened in him some new desires, and that’s what the Gospel can do in us, too. It ought to!
The long term fruit of our Christmas play will only be seen with time. Many followed Jesus when he was on earth, but only a few became his true followers.
Our goal of the Christian Christmas Carol play was to introduce people to Jesus, but it’s not a bait and switch tactic to try to trick people into following Him. No one has ever become a devoted follower of Christ by accident—He does the transforming work in you, but you have to be open to it.
I pray that this week has been a relaxing time for our church. We put in a lot of work last week for the Christmas play, and you’ve earned it! But maybe we never grow lazy in our life of service to God. He is eternally worthy of all we can give him.
God bless us, everyone!
