What a week last week! The morning service was a powerful time of worship as we gave to the Lord, but it was also an encouraging time to hear from him, even if it felt like the judgment of God. You know, we NEED that!
The evening service was incredibly moving too. If you missed it, we could never recreate the moment just by watching it online; you had to be there—yet another reason to not neglect any service.
Today, MILLIONS of people will go to their worship centers—tens of thousands to Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, or millions more sitting at their digital shrine at home—enraptured with their gods of fame, fortune, and entertainment. Make no mistake, the Super Bowl is a spiritual experience; just look at what’s wrapped up in it.
Am I against it? No! I’ll probably watch the game.
But is the Super Bowl the most important thing happening today?
You get to decide the answer to that question yourself. I can’t decide that for you. No one can but you.
If we keep God in his place—high on his throne, wholly other than his creation—and we keep us in our place—in the dust and on the dunghill—then our salvation means a whole lot more to us. Remember? Psalms 113:5-8 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, 6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! 7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; 8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
What a God! Praise Him today.
