Michael Prasek lived in the eastern part of the Czech Republic and kept a “pet” lion in his back yard. Although the lion was kept in an enclosure, some of the townspeople were understandably concerned. Prasek regularly entered the enclosure and interacted with the creature. That is, until this week. When Michael’s father went to see why he was not answering his phone, he made the grisly discovery of his son’s remains inside the lion’s enclosure.
Most will agree that it is a fool’s errand to expect to keep a pet lion to play with. There is good reason that God used the image of a lion in describing our great adversary. He said, in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
Yet, people think to play with the devices and snares Satan uses to entrap and devour them. They all reason, “I am different, and I won’t be harmed by this.” So, they play at immorality; or at drugs and alcohol; or at some form of spiritism, or maybe its some wrong relationship. They think, “I’m not caught, I’m okay.…”
Michael Prasek had gone in the lion cage many times and come out unscathed. He thought, “This lion is my pet, and I am in control.” But he thought wrong and paid the ultimate price. May God help us to heed the counsel of His Word and not make “pets” of sins which will one unexpected day, devour us.
