I take lots and lots of notes. When I listen to preaching, I want to be a doer, not just a hearer, and the best way I know how to do that is to take notes.
These were some of my notes (blurred for you nosy people!) from the recent preachers fellowship meeting, and I realized that I am bad at listening to preaching! I get distracted easily. So, good job paying attention during the weekly preaching here! I love our church, and you are an easy congregation to preach to—your active listening is key.
I am passionate about our new church tagline: WE BRING THE BIBLE HOME. I want us to continue with the Word, not just consume it on Sunday.
So, maybe that means you take notes, too. I just spent last week going through a GIANT pile of notes, moving them from, “Ah, that was good!” to “I want to use this here…” When God’s Word stirs you, do something with it.
Your notes might look like scraps of paper or digital files on your phone or computer. Or, you might have a note-takers Bible like my wife—HER notes are beautiful! Just look at her book of Ephesians…
After all the study we’ve done in this book, it would be a shame to forget all the nuggets of truth we’ve uncovered in our mining operations. Write them down. A year from now, you will be glad you did.
Let’s be people of the Word. Let’s bring the Bible home.
