Proverbs 30:15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give.
With the proliferation of governmental payouts for long term unemployment benefits, has also come a proliferation of men who would prefer not to work a job.
The cost of a new house has risen $24,000.00 in these months, due to the tripling of the cost of lumber! In thinking about the extreme rise in lumber costs in the last six months, I listened to an interview done last week, with an owner of one of Oregon’s lumber mills. He related how that his company was backed up by months, with logs awaiting milling, even with all his employees working all the hours they wanted.
He was asked by the interviewer, Lars Larson, why he didn’t just hire a lot more workers. He replied that he couldn’t find people willing to work, even at a starting pay of $25.00 and more, per hour! He said people were saying that they received enough in unemployment and other government handouts, that they saw no need to work.
We’ve heard of the ludicrous waste that this state’s Employment Development Division has been guilty of in this past year. Between ten billion and thirty billion dollars has been given out in fraudulent claims in California alone. Though there is harm done to all working citizens in these situations, the greatest damage occurs in the lives of those who have learned to shun the opportunities for honest work in favor of existing off government dependence.
Proverbs 14:23 In all labour there is profit:
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
