My family became members of Calvary Baptist Church when I was in the 6th grade and I’ve been around long enough to watch buildings be built and many lives changed for Christ. Through it all, God has truly been faithful. Yet that is why I believe it is so important for all of us to remember that none of these things (the buildings, the lives changed, the programs) would be possible without the abundant blessing and grace of God.
I am often comforted by Jesus’ words when He said “I will build my church”. If it were up to us, we would surely fail! But thanks be to God that we can trust in the One who is able to supply our every need.
Today we get to hear from our founding pastor in both the morning and evening services. I am so thankful for Pastor Rench’s commitment to the Gospel and the Word of God over the past three and a half decades. He truly is an encouragement to me, as well as many pastors all over southern California.
My prayer is that this week we would take time to reflect on all that God has done over the last 35 years of ministry. Together, we can look forward to many more decades, expecting that Christ will continue to build His church for His glory.
