A recent article in Scientific American was titled, “Is Science Hitting a Wall?” The account noted that the number of paid researchers is larger than ever and is continuing to grow, and yet, what the author called research productivity, has steadily declined. He wrote, “…certain fields are arguably regressing. Psychiatrists have harmed many patients by overprescribing medications. The cancer industry, similarly, is over-diagnosing and overtreating Americans.” He added, “Gene therapy has been an enormous disappointment, and treatments for mental illness remain appallingly primitive.” Another expert quoted in the article said, “Science has become less reliable because competition among researchers for publications, grants, tenure and other rewards has become more intense.
Yes, the fatal flaw in the great hope of Science solving all the problems of the world is the human flaw. Man is not unlimited, and capable of omniscience. That is the realm of God alone. I wonder if those who are coming to grips with fact that Science is not the Saviour some have trusted in, will reconsider their former dismissal of the reality of the Creator, the God of the Bible?
