It is likely that there are more Bibles per capita in America than anywhere else in the world. Yet, even among professing Christians, the possession of a Bible does not often follow on to the regular reading of it. In those places in the world where it is not the case that the Scriptures are readily available, there is a greater desire to possess a Bible and a greater determination to read it.
One of our missionaries has worked on getting Bibles into the hands of Chinese people through the churches he has been helping to plant in China. In their last letter he related how that over 5,000 Bibles had been delivered to recent converts in the churches there. Honeycutt said most of those 5,000 Bibles were given to people who had just been saved within the past 12 months.
He included an extensive survey of some 1700 recent converts to Christ in Asia, who were asked, “In your becoming a Christian, what media had the greatest impact?” The results were as follows:
Television: 37, Radio: 59, Other: 91, Video: 99, Gospel Tract: 119, Internet: 157, Book: 310, Bible: 863
As you can see, the truth directly from a copy of God’s Word makes a huge difference in becoming a Christian in Asia.
All of you who give consistently to the support of our Missionaries around the world have a part in the salvation of these precious souls who we’ll not meet until we meet them at the coming of the Lord!
Isaiah 34:16, Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read.
