Some Christians Are In a Spiritual Coma
Christianity can easily become outward-only.
Sometimes it’s a hypocrisy thing—you’re putting on a show so you don’t get outed as a fake. But sometimes it’s a sneaky self-deception thing—we sometimes don’t even realize how non-personal our Christianity has become.
We go through the motions. We attend church. We read the Bible. We sing.
And we do it all without the Holy Spirit. We do it with dead eyes, like we’re in a coma. Functioning fine, but not a spark of life.
It is God who works in you.
- Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
A heart from God begins with a heart for God. The fruit of the Spirit comes from walking in the Spirit.
- Psalms 51:15-17 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
God, help us to awake to righteousness, and sin not! Stir the embers into a flame.
- Psalms 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
