I try not to let it get to me. I really try.
Sometimes, though, I glance out at the congregation while we are singing our hymns and I see “the glaze.” People’s mouths might be moving, and sounds might be coming out, but there’s no… uumph to their attempt. They’re just… singing.
And then I look at myself. Oops. I do it too. Come on, Ryan! Don’t just sing!
But I do. Shame on me.
Do you ever do that? Just sing. No concentration. No meaning. No feeling. No passion. No care. No consideration. Just plain ol’ singing.
Please don’t do that. Don’t just sing. Sing with fervor. Sing with gusto. Sing with passion. Sing as if it’s real to you. Don’t just… sing.
And while you sing, think. Think about each word, each phrase and each thought. Think about each concept. Think about your salvation and all that God offers you through His Son. Think with depth and it will change you from just a singer to a worshiper.
