-bulletin note from Mother’s Day Sunday, May 12, 2013
In tribute to the enormous influence of mothers, someone said, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” I’m sure that you moms, while you are changing diapers and spooning Gerber’s pureed carrot, aren’t exactly feeling like world rulers, but you certainly are shaping lives!
I read the following in an article by Evangelist John Goetsch: “Emerson once said, ‘Men are what their mothers make them.’ Abraham Lincoln stated, ‘No one is poor who had a godly mother.’ Evangelist Billy Sunday preached, ‘I don’t think there are enough devils in Hell to take a young person from the arms of a godly mother.’ “What a difference the right kind of a mother can make in a home, in a church, and in our nation!”
God seems to indicate in Romans 1 that the last deterrent before a nation slips into total depravity is the righteousness of women. As we pray for our nation, let’s pray for our nation’s moms. Mothers that are here today, may God grant you all the grace you need to be what you need to be for your own family and for the hope of the next generation.
