We have in our minds what beautiful singing should sound like. We even know how to mimic or imitate it, too.
But doesn’t it always just feel like mimicking? When YOU sing “beautifully,” does it feel fake to you?
I’ll tell you what Bro. Eric told me when I was taking lessons from him: “It doesn’t matter what you think.”
You have ears connected to your head, so what YOU hear is a LOT different from what I hear, because of how the sound bounces around in your skull. So even when it feels fake to sing “beautifully,” do it anyway. If it’s incorrect, we can change it. Chances are, though, it sounds good to me. If it sounds good to me…that’s what we’ll go with. Not because I’m more important than you, but because I hear you differently than you hear you. Make sense?
I’m always amused…Sometimes all I have to say is, “Sing beautifully,” and the choir magically transforms itself into a glorious voice All I had to do was say two words! Two little words!
You know what to do. Try superseding me…tell yourself to sing beautifully, even if it seems faked.
