Last year’s Yard Sale totaled around $2500. That was after 6 weeks of collecting stuff (remember how FULL the gym was last year?!), after the church ½ off sale (which is tonight for us) and after selling all the big stuff later on Craigslist.
We haven’t sold our big stuff or had our ½ off sale yet. We may break last year’s record. We’ll see.
We couldn’t have done it without Mrs. Jamie or Mrs. Rench. They are amazing ladies who’ve poured hours into preparing this whole fund-raiser for you. You’ll never know the amount of work that is done behind the scenes of anything until you do it, and certainly our Garage Sale is one day that you get a lot of money for without really knowing how much work has gone into it. It’s like the stage crew of a play. When you’re watching the play you don’t think about the teams of people in the background getting the props, or the person who printed the tickets, or the administrator who scheduled the theater, or the janitor who cleaned the floors and bathrooms… you get the idea.
Be over-the-top thankful for everything that comes your way. “Well, I worked for this money. I deserve my cut. You’re supposed to do these fund-raisers for me to be able to go to camp.”
Actually, that’s not true. No one deserves anything, and we don’t have to do fund-raisers for camp. It’s a privilege of our church, and you’d do well to be over-the-top thankful. You should have that kind of gratitude for a lot of things. Learn to be expressive and specific.
So anyway, congrats on the great fund-raiser. If you have a voice left after shouting at every car passing by, you’re awesome.
