Note from Sunday, December 8, 2013
I think I’m going to get a bobble-head of Bro. Ken to put in my office. He’s my hero.
Bro. Ken is my hero for many reasons. First, he can use the force to lift buildings. Second, he has cool guns that he lets me shoot. Third, he has taken on thirteen silverback gorillas. At the same time. By hand. And he won. Fourth, he has a cool, manly truck. Fifth, he can still whoop me in just about every sport, and he’s almost 86 years old!
A couple other reasons are that he has a great heart for God, a willingness to serve, a desire to help, and a spirit to give to others. In addition, today he’s preaching Sunday school for me. What a blessing!
Preaching is honestly one of the main highlights of my week. I think about it all week and plan what I’m going to say. I think about my sermons at night before bed and in the mornings when I’m doing my devotions. I work on my sermons like they’re my babies and spend several hours per week on those babies. If you’ve ever seen my notes, you have seen that each sermon is about 25 pages and about 2k – 3k typed words. I love to preach. I love to study God’s Word!
But… it takes a lot of time, and some weeks I have a little less time. This past week, my inlaws were in town so I took a few vacation days and did not quite have as much study time. Also, I am preaching in church today and tonight, and those babies need birthing, too! Last week, with Sunday school, morning service and evening service, it was like having triplets! Whew! Poor me!
All that is to say this… while I love preaching, this week, Bro. Ken is my hero and he is preaching in my place while I focus on the morning and evening services. It is always a blessing to hear Bro. Ken, and sometimes you need a break from ME too! J

Now Unto the King Eternal (song 17)
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible,
The only wise God, the only wise God,
Be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Amen. Be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness (song 16)
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not
As Thou has been Thou forever wilt be.
Chorus:
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide.
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.
