On this weekend, 27 years ago, a small group of people celebrated a birth… the birth of a church!
In fact, they were the baby!
My dad came to Temecula when I was 6 months old and started knocking doors. He didn’t know anyone around here, but he had a vision to reach lost souls and try to win them from Christ to keep them from hell. He had a desire to build a church that was a haven for “sick” people… a hospital for the spiritual growth that we all need. He has stood firm on God’s Word and has remained timeless.
Trends have come and gone and come and gone again. Thankfully, our church was founded on timeless principles and doesn’t have to sway with each new fad. Thankfully, we have emphasized the timeless truths over the traditions of men or the trends of the culture to build our church, and God’s Word has been the guide for doctrine AND practice.
Thankfully, we’re not trendy. We are still just… church. That’s kind of what church should be… church.
Once upon a time in America, people knew what “church” was supposed to look like and feel like. There were “churchy” things. Culture’s churches have changed to become fellowships, social clubs, assembles and rock concerts. We’re still just… church. Still church.
Sound boring to you? It’s not! The life of serving God is an adventure. It’s a roller coaster of excitement and a crazy ride sometimes! There are ups and downs and twists and turns, but the good news is that it’s anchored. It’s bolted down. It’s got LOADS of concrete and safety built in, just like a roller coaster should.
Would you want to ride a roller coaster with no anchor bolts? I wouldn’t.
Would you like to ride the newest and latest fads in churches? They’re a roller coaster ride, all right, but they’re not anchored.
Why be trendy when we can be timeless? Happy birthday, CBC. Praise God that we’re still church.

YOUTH LEADERS RETREAT – I just returned from the Youth Leaders Retreat and had a great weekend with a bunch of other youth pastors. Once again, I’m SO pleased to be a part of this church, and I love you more and more every time I’m able to see other youth groups. That’s not pride… that’s just a statement. I love being here.
We DID get some compliments on being “deep” and on have great spirits and attitudes. I would normally be “proud” of those statements. The only problem is… I know you too well to believe them. You’re all knuckleheads. You just look good on the outside. J (Kidding. You’re awesome.)
My Soul Wait Thou Only Upon God (song 104)
My soul, wait Thou only upon God.
My soul, wait Thou only upon God.
For my expectation is from Him.
My soul, wait Thou only upon God.
Some Trust in Chariots (song 107)
Some trust in chariots and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
Now I know that the Lord saved His anointed;
He will hear him from His holy Heaven;
With the saving strength of His right hand,
They are brought down and fallen,
But we are risen and stand upright.
