Don’t waste your summer.
Too many people waste their summer time on video games and sleep. Don’t be lazy.
Have I told you lately that I hate video games?
I don’t hate video games directly—I’ll play some iPhone games here and there—I just hate that they suck the lives out of people. I hate when they’re the things you do when you should be interacting with real people. I hate when you’re on mobile games when you should be talking with people at church. I hate when you kill time on video games when you could be reading. I hate when you move colored pixels till 2:30 on Saturday night and then you sleep through church.
I just hate when dumb things get in the way of important things. Oh wait… that’s kind of like the first commandment. Ok I’m just being sarcastic now, but it’s still true. Video games can easily become a god to you. If you’re not willing to take a month or two off, ask yourself, “Why not?” Is it SO important to you that you couldn’t live without them? If it’s a god to you, drop it. If it’s a big deal to drop it, it’s probably a god to you. If you’re trying to rationalize to yourself why you play so many video games, it’s probably a god to you. If it’s a god to you, drop it… You get the idea.
Use your summer for God. Take your free time as an opportunity to pull weeds at church. Be at doorknocking every Saturday. Go doorknocking with the interns on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2:30. Come to youth activities. Ride your bike. Build a shed. Plan a hike. Write a book. Seriously. Do something productive this summer. Plan it out. Write it down. Commit to it.
Or waste your time and regret your summer. What I do not want is for you to have regrets. I want you to challenge yourself to be more and do more and accomplish more. You’ll be happier with yourself if you accomplish something this summer, so get busy and DO something.
Those of you who are self-motivated won’t have any trouble filling your time with productive things to do. Those of you who aren’t self-motivated, write down 20 things you want to accomplish this summer and get them done. Write notes. Read books. Learn to write code. Build a computer. Cut down a tree. Split firewood. Cook a full meal. Write a sermon. Whatever… Think of something on your own.
I guarantee that all of you could be doing WAY more for the Lord than you’re doing now. I know that’s true about ME! I just need to stop and think about what I want to accomplish this summer and put a plan in place to do it.
Make your summer count.

BAKERS’ ANNIVERSARY! Be sure to congratulate Bro. Ken and Mrs. Gina when you see them. They’re awesome. Anyone who’s been married that long is amazing. I don’t care who you are… long marriages are becoming more and more rare, and we should try to be JUST like the Bakers in their marriage commitment!
