Today’s the day to put your decisions to the test. But you don’t have to be weird about it.
If you weren’t at the Youth Winter Rendezvous, we were learning all weekend about spiritual friendships. Every relationship in your life should help you spiritually.
So what does that mean? Does it mean you HAVE to talk only about “Bible stuff” every single time you see each other? Does it mean you’re wicked if you talk about ping pong?
Nope. Feel free to mess around. Feel free to have fun with your friends. That’s totally okay.
Spiritual friendships are not ONLY about things that are spiritual. Fellowship in the Bible is about brothers and sisters in Christ meeting together and just encouraging each other. Sometimes that happens through having fun and building memories together.
Some of our activities (like the Knott’s trip) are simply about having fun together. And it’s still a spiritual activity, because it’s tightening the bond between Christians as we have fun together.
So, as we discussed in the split sessions and devo times, you don’t have to be awkward about it. YES, be intentional. YES, make it a point to talk about deeper things, at times. YES, make sure your conversations aren’t always about nonsense things. But at the same time, have fun together.
Ask each other about your daily Bible reading. Encourage each other to be attentive to the preaching. Ask each other about your prayer lives. Shut down each other’s negative attitude, bad mouthing parents or complaining. But also have some fun together. Enjoy developing your spiritual friendships.
