Written by Ryan Rench. Take cover! The interns are here, the interns are here!
Well, the day is upon us.The day we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The interns have come to stay.
If you have missed the last couple weeks’ bulletins, we have been anticipating the arrival of our new church staff: Steven Wilkerson, Robert Martinez and Sarah Brown. The men are interning here for the summer and Ms.Brown is on permanent staff as our new church secretary. Today is an exciting day as it is their first service with us!
I thought I’d reminisce a little, so I came up with a few thoughts to finish this statement: “I like the interns because…”
They are teachable. I love that in people. They love the Lord enough to know that they have plenty to learn while serving Him.They are eager to soak up new ideas and are not offended when things get changed up on them. They see mistakes not as setbacks but as opportunities to get better.I like that.
They are godly men. I love being around people who love the Lord. Are they perfect Christians? Not at ALL! Who is?! No one is perfect. But they have a genuine desire to follow God and His Word. They don’t just talk about loving God, as if He’s a good luck genie, but they actually try to live in obedience to Him.They try to “Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” (Rom.12:9) I like that.I like when conversations turn toward salvation testimonies, God’s call on our lives, Bible study, prayer, godly relationships, and the like.I do not mind talking about sports, tech, hobbies or fun stuff, but if that is ALL our conversation is about, something’s wrong!
They are godly young men. I love that young men are still responding to God’s call on their lives.I love that Satan’s not getting all the youth of America.Sometimes the world seems bleak.Sometimes it seems like no one cares about doing right.Sometimes it seems like everyone hates God.When you start to think like that, remember that we have had several shining examples of young men who love God and want to please Him.I like that these interns are good examples to our young people.
They are fun! Interns are fun.Did you know that Christians can have fun, too? In fact, our type of fun involves great memories without regrets. There are no pills needed, no guilt associated, and no hangover after our fun. It’s just pure, plain ol’ fun living as a Christian. Our interns always add a fun spice of life as they play and laugh with us all summer.
I like our interns.I say let’s keep ‘em!
