One of the main reasons a good number of young adults have a favorable view of Socialism today is the dismal job that the public-school system in America has done in teaching history. Clueless about the many failed experiments in Socialism in the past and present, many American youth only have a conception of Socialism which has been concocted for them by an educational culture which leans decidedly left.
Rewriting American history has been a prime objective of these leftists who are in places of influence. We are reminded of one of the favorite lines, often repeated by the citizens of the old USSR, “The future is known. It’s the past that keeps changing.”
Historian and author Wilfred M. McClay noted of American textbook publishers: “It is no coincidence that the giant textbook publisher Pearson has just announced plans to go digital-first with its own massive array of textbooks…including those in history. Students will eventually be required to use…the constantly updated texts, tethering students and schools exclusively to the publisher’s digital platform.”
With the digital format, of course, it is much easier to make changes than it is in printed textbooks. The only way the leftist has to retain influence, is to portray America’s foundations as fundamentally evil, and Socialism and Communism as fundamentally good.
Certainly, the institution of slavery was an evil that contradicted the ideals of many of our founders, but this evil was eventually rooted out, and was judged in blood, as the dark days of the American Civil War brought about the deaths of more than 600,000 young men from both sides of the conflict. It was the American ideal of liberty for all that eventually prevailed.
The left would like to erase from history the influence of the Bible and of Christianity and replace it with a Secular Socialist fantasy. The acceptance of such a delusional position can only lead to a new era of slavery for those who would embrace it.
