I’ve been enjoying the highlights from the World Cup. Watching people from all over the world experience America for the first time—and genuinely love it—is something I never get tired of. I’ve seen videos of Japanese visitors and Europeans trying Texas barbecue, and they’re absolutely blown away by how good it is!
So far, my favorite part of the World Cup has been watching American fans sing the National Anthem before the U.S. team takes the field. Reports say they’re singing with incredible volume and passion. But why? Because they believe they have something worth singing about. This year feels especially significant. In just one week, our nation will celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Across the stadiums of our country, Americans are singing louder than ever because they believe there is something worthy of celebration. The truth is, people sing with passion when they are convinced there is something worth celebrating.
As Christians, don’t we have something infinitely better to sing about?
Today is the final day of our Congregational Singing Emphasis Month. It would be a shame to worship such a wonderful God, yet sing to Him without joy or enthusiasm.
We love our country, and we are grateful to be Americans. But we have Someone far greater than our nation to sing about. Today, let’s lift our voices with passion, gratitude, and joy to the One who is forever worthy of our praise.
