Spring Updates
Spring is here, and with our Resurrection Sunday behind us, we are looking forward to what God wants to do in our church in the coming months. Here are some of the updates from last week…
NEW SERIES. Tonight we start our new series on appearance. Stay tuned…
SHAE LEAVING. Tonight is our last service with Ms. Shaelynne. Perhaps next time we see her it will be Mrs. Shaelynne—we hope so! No details are set yet, so don’t pester them too much… all we know so far is that the wedding (it will just be a small family ceremony) can’t come soon enough.
QUIET AROUND HERE. With Bro. Zack off and the Saldanas heading to Mexico for vacation this week, it has been quiet around the office. I’m so thankful for our staff getting to enjoy a break after so much hard work, and I am thankful for the volunteers taking their places while they are gone.
EASTER. The services on Sunday were packed, and I was thankful for the many guests that came to church that day. Some of them were brand new to our church, and others were visiting from out of town. Thank you for being kind to guests and welcoming each new face you see. Take that spirit with you every week and never walk past anyone without acknowledging them.
FAITH BIBLE INSTITUTE CLASSES. I enrolled our church as a satellite campus for the Faith Bible Institute—a three-year video course through the Bible. Once we are approved, we will begin getting more information out for the Fall semester.
HBBC TRIP. Thank you for praying for the students from Heartland Baptist Bible College. They enjoyed a wonderful trip and were able to visit 11 ministries in 6 days!
MASTER CLUBS PINE CAR DERBY TONIGHT. We get to enjoy the car races at the close of service tonight!

APPEARANCE
Our series on the appearance starts tonight. We are going through independent Baptist pastor Tom Brennan’s book Yes, It Matters, which he released last year. I appreciated a number of things about the book:
First, it deals with scores of Scriptures before it gets to the few that are often used to apply directly to dress standards.
Second, it deals first with WHY and HOW we ought to approach this study, and teaches us how to apply PRINCIPLES and not just look for proof-text verses.
Third, it takes with an INSIDE OUT methodology. It is first inside THEN outside, neglecting neither.
Fourth, the tone is genuine and kind, matching the biblical evidence and tone.
Fifth, the application is clear. No need to wonder where the author stands on a topic, yet he accomplishes this without harshness. I might come at it from a different perspective than he would, yet I believe from reading it that he and I could still be friends. That is not true of everyone.
Sixth, it covers many aspects: Bible study, God’s holiness, dress, hair, modesty, identity, vanity, and more.
This series is helpful for a number of reasons:
D______________ Rev. 3:2, Heb. 2:1, 3:12–13, 6:9–12
I______________ 2 Tim. 2:2, 14–16, 23–26
