We’re fond of several sayings around here.
One is, “Don’t be a jerk. Don’t be annoying.” The first part is mostly for the older ones in class to not think too highly of themselves and look down on the new 7th graders. Don’t be jerks. The second part, though, is mostly for the new 7th graders. Don’t be annoying.
If you’re annoying, you deserve to be pounded. But if you’re just being a snob because you’re older, that says far worse things about your character than it does about the person you’re looking down on.
Another saying I like to repeat is, “Love God, love others, and do right.” You will hear it often because it is what the Teens of Faith should be all about. Having such a huge passion for God that you can’t help but love other people and want to do right. It’s explained a little deeper in the booklets that we give our guests.
The Teens of Faith is about a lot of things—weekly classes, missions trips, activities, games, t-shirts, Preaching Rally, fund-raisers…—but we work VERY hard not to let those things I just listed become the main thing. The main thing is that we emphasize a relationship with God. We do that through preaching, primarily. Teen, learn to love preaching! Soak it up. Hear from God. Do His will. We also emphasize your daily walk with God through personal devotions and prayer. A right relationship with God will show in your relationship with your parents, your passion for serving, your devotions, your attitude, your involvement in outreach, and pretty much… everywhere!
Welcome to the Teens of Faith. You belong to your parents, not us, but we want to help you and your family in any way that we can. Even though I don’t know all of you yet, I love you and want God’s best for you.
