Throughout the middle of the nineteenth century George Muller built and operated orphanages in London . He reached the place where they were caring for over 2000 orphans, providing food, shelter, clothing and training for all of them every day . The most remarkable part of all this was that it was accomplished without any government assistance and without Muller ever asking anyone for the provision for the financial needs. For some 40 years, he asked it only of God in prayer, and God unfailingly supplied the need for all those years . When the unsolicited donations would come in, they always came in God’s perfect timing . This often caused Muller to be overcome with thankfulness to God for His love, provision and care . He was in his seventies when he turned the work of leading the orphanages over to his son-in-law . He had good cause to rest a bit, but instead he embarked on another endeavor, as a missionary evangelist . His passion had always been to bring souls to the Saviour, and though he’d seen thousands saved in the orphanage work, he could not be satisfied. He preached and won souls to Christ around the world for another 17 years! In addition to his well-known habits of prayer, he read the Bible through four times each year. Few had ever met a man with such a spirit of Thanksgiving as George Muller possessed.
