Although the early churches did not take pains to commemorate a yearly observance marking the resurrection of Christ, it is without controversy that it did occur in this season of the year . It followed the Passover, which had been observed in this season since its inception among the Hebrews under the delivering ministry of Moses .
The word Easter actually has its originations in a pagan festival that occurred at the same season of the year . There is an actual reference to it in the book of Acts . It coincided with the Jewish Passover and with the time of year Jesus was resurrected, and came into the English language having gained the definition of the celebration of the resurrection of Christ. We find it so designated even in the Ancient Anglo-Saxon language . The churches held the conviction that we do, that not just Easter Sunday, but that every Sunday is a commemoration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ . We are glad we don’t have to wait for just one Sunday a year to celebrate the greatest event in the history of the world! Buddha is not, and Mohammed is not, but Jesus Christ is resurrected from the dead, and through Him alone we have the way of our own resurrection!
