Last month while Dad was preaching, I was using my study time to prepare for our new Colossians series starting today called KING JESUS. We wrapped up our 1 Samuel and our Temple series, and now we’re back in the New Testament for another incredible letter to the church at Colossae where Philemon was a member.
I read hundreds of pages of introductory material on the book, with some liberal authors claiming Paul didn’t write the book, while others saying he did. Well, verse 1 of the book clears that up for me, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ…” Yep. Paul wrote it.
I mean, I still read all the scholarly stuff to verify it all for myself, but all that did was strengthened the faith in God’s Word that I already had! I do appreciate that we have a Book that stands up to the rigors of all the testing and probing from scholars through the centuries, and yet it’s simple enough that even a child can understand it.
Paul did not start the church there in Colossae, but he heard about some weird teachings going on in that region and wrote the letter to bring the church back to Christ. JESUS CHRIST is the king of the universe! There’s no rival. There’s nothing else that should take your focus. Keep your eyes on King Jesus—he changes everything.
There. That about sums up the series. Don’t bother coming back for the rest of the year, I guess! (Just kidding!)
I’m looking forward to diving into this great book with you.
