Getting Closer To Jesus
We just started a series in the Rooted Class on prophecy and the end times, and the first question we asked was, “Why?” Why study prophecy?
Some people study the End Times as a hobby. They know all the intricacies of every theological position. They’ll argue the particulars with anyone.
But their lives are a mess.
I’m not impressed with their intricate Bible study if they’re missing the most important point of Bible study… Jesus! The greatest answer to the question, “Why should we study prophecy?” is to help us grow in knowing Jesus! The point of studying the Scriptures is not to win an argument, but to connect your life to God through his revealed Word.
The same is true of our series on appearance. Some people “know” immediately what a person’s heart is like, because, well, “well, because… just LOOK at them.”
It is ironic to me that some of the people who vocally take the STRONGEST positions on appearance seldom exhibit the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. I have seen people who are experts at everyone else’s problems but their own, as we’ll see from John 8 tonight.
I’m all for an inside-out transformation that does in fact show on the outside, but I am also careful about the order. Inside first. Then outside.
Let’s grow in knowing Jesus better this year.
