“FOLLOW ME!” Gets Drowned Out By Other Voices
Jesus clearly tells us to follow Him, but other voices can crowd his out.
Pastor Jason Jett was preaching at the Southwest Youth Conference in Oklahoma last week, and he had a student come up and stand in front of the pulpit. A man stood at the back of the auditorium and started saying, “Follow me! Follow me!”
When the room was quiet, it was easy to hear that one voice. “Follow me” was loud and clear.
Then, Bro. Jett had half the crowd (about 1,500 total attendance) represent social media, and they continuously chanted, “Listen to me! Listen to me!…” The other half of the crowd represented friends, and they repeated, “I’m 16. Listen to my great wisdom!…”
The one voice at the back of the auditorium represented God. When he was the only voice, it was easy to hear him, but when the rest of the voices chimed in, it became impossible to discern the call. “Follow me” was, basically, what everyone was saying.
Those distractions can be anything.
What is it that gets your ears off of God’s voice? Maybe it’s time for a little input cleanup.
