Poor Mrs. Jamie…she’s planned about 4 activities that haven’t happened. I think God is trying to tell
us something, though. We got the hint, and we are finally settling on something closer.
Here’s the deal. First, our winter camp was canceled because of a weird year where we didn’t quite have enough people to meet the minimum numbers. So, we looked into every possibility to go meet up with the camp for a day. No can do.
We rescheduled to Friday (New Year’s Day) tubing near the camp. Nope. Too busy. Fine, how about Monday? No can do. Okay…we’ll find somewhere else to tube.
Dozens of internet searches on bad websites later, and we’ve got nothing. I don’t want to go ALL the way up Big Bear, so we’re looking everywhere else for tubing. Finally, Mrs. Jamie finds a tubing spot on Mt. Baldy. Great! Let’s do it!
We’re all excited. We are gathering snow clothes for Abe, and pumping it up to him. We got our signup sheet and permission slips all filled out. 19 people going. Mrs. Jamie calls on Thursday to confirm the
reservations. They say, “Uh, sorry. We decided we’re going to close that day instead.” Seriously?! Poor Mrs. Jamie had just talked to them the day before.
Oh well. We’ll find somewhere else, then. Should we do another type of activity? Nah. Let’s go tubing. It will be fun. Okay…back to Big Bear, I guess!
So, we look at the budget. It’s more expensive but we’ll take the hit on gas and lunch. Let’s go to Big Bear! Sign some more papers! Make some more calls. View some more bad websites. Read some more reviews. Finally found a place that’s open, doesn’t have holiday pricing, and looks like fun. Got it!
Yesterday, after door-knocking, Pastor calls and says, “There’s a storm coming. You’ll probably need chains if you’re going up the mountain.”
Will parents want my taking their kids up a mountain in the snow? Or even in the rain? Nah. God…are you trying to tell me something?
Well, yeah, dummy! I’ve told you five times! I had to use the threat of a snowstorm on you!
Okay, okay…I get it.
So…our NEW activity plans are changed again. Tomorrow, instead of tubing, we will go ice skating and then go to John’s Incredible Pizza! So…we’re kind of doing two activities in one! We’ll meet at 9:30 tomorrow, Monday, Jan 4, and return to the church around 4pm. Cost is $17 (not $25). Bring extra for snacks, arcades, or go-carts, etc. Enjoy!
