Go back and read that again. Never mind…you won’t. Here it is again: Camp is a place of decision.
Church is too, but camp is more so.
Sure, you can make spiritual decisions at church. I think you should. In fact, I think it should happen more. My wife and I have wondered why it doesn’t happen more, because God speaks weekly through His Word, and when He speaks, we should respond. We’ve wondered why the altars are not used much.
But that’s beside the point. CHURCH can be a place for decision. But CAMP is a place of decision.
See, CHURCH is a lot of things. It’s a body. It’s a family. It’s a hospital. It’s a lighthouse. It’s a beacon of hope. It’s a place of service. It’s a place of worship. It’s a place of prayer. It’s a place where we practice music groups, fellowship as believers, and serve others. It’s a LOT of things.
But camp is almost NONE of those things. We don’t go to camp to primarily worship, serve, pray, do music practices or fellowship. We don’t go to camp weekly. We don’t go to camp for only a few hours on one day.
Camp is completely different from church.
It’s a tool to help your spiritual life. That’s about it. And the biggest tool they use at camp is the intensive preaching of God’s Word. When a camper gets away from the world (whether he thinks he needs it or not) in a spiritual environment where doing devotions is cool, he’s surrounded by godly leaders 24/7, and he hears the preaching several times daily…there’s nothing but good that comes from that tool.
The “bad” aspects of camp are just…silly. Heat? Really?! Cabin drama? Really?! First world problems. Focus on the positive in life; not negatives. It’s better that way.
If you want to sign up for camp, you still can. Tell your friends, too. They are absolutely invited!
I wouldn’t make such a big deal about camp if I didn’t believe it to be the best week of your summer. MUCH better than anything else you might be doing (better for you, at least).
